  • Steve & Vickie Tesmer joined us today. They are not visitors, but long-time Trinitians (as our esteemed President calls us). They've been attending the start-up church their daughter, Dana, has been involved with. It was great to have them back with us again today.

Leadership Program
  • Rick Shamblin led the class in discussion of our role within FUMCR and how we can put the church's long-term plan, called Vision FUMCR, into action.  We have committed to getting the ball rolling on a church leadership program.  Specifically, we are charged with the following:
    • Assess ongoing leadership needs (FUMCR, UMC, Community)
    • Research best-in-class offerings (Leadership Richardson, Summit, district conference, Alban)
  • The end goal is to cultivate a pool of ready leaders to fill the needs in the church and community.
  • The church has hired Beth Smith to assist in the development of leadership.
  • We kicked around a lot of ideas and had great class participation.
    • SWOT analysis (Strenths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)
    • Survey church staff - where have they had difficulties
    • How to create a culture of volunteerism and leadership
    • Brainstorm church needs - start with a clean slate
    • What resources are available through the North Texas conference and the UMC?
    • We have multiple class members who have gone through the Leadership Richardson program
    • What does the church staff do now? What committees are there? Where are lay leaders needed now?
    • Marie's next lesson series (starting after Easter) will focus on servant leadership, so the timing is perfect
  • Next steps
    • Figure out when we can start working with Beth Smith
    • Brainstorming session
